Join Heather and Dianne as they discuss how you can create a brand that is authentic and represents your vision and values!
D and Heather start the episode by discussing Heather's recent trip to Phoenix for her sister's birthday, where she was hiking, having game nights, and even riding in a hot air balloon!
Heather also mentions her daughter might be interested in heading out West for college. She says that it's her job to prepare her children for adulthood and that if her daughter thinks she can go to school far away, she has to trust that she is ready for it.
Heather also circles back to her note from a previous episode about how important it is to live in the moment by taking a trip or vacation.
D starts the branding conversation by asking Heather, "When you think about branding, what is the most important thing to think about?"
Heather says that no matter how she felt about the logo and name, they knew their brand colors from day one.
Heather and D both agree that your colors create your vibe, mood, and overall aesthetic. D emphasizes that the colors you choose are going to dictate so much about your brand.
Their staple colors are black and white, but they've also added earthy tones as well.
Heather also mentions that fonts are another example of a part of your brand that creates a specific feeling.
D and Heather have talked about how they have "the eye" and Heather reflects on a time when she had to help another shop merchandise because the color story they were working with did not make sense.
D brings up the significance of branding and that when you look at something, you want to know who it is. They bring up examples of brands with clear branding like Nike and Target.
They have created a branding guide that you can get here to jumpstart your branding process!
When creating your brand, Heather mentions the most important part is to ask yourself these questions:
Why am I doing this?
What am I standing behind?
What is non-negotiable for me?
D and Heather talk about how people appreciate authenticity and conviction. Their mission, values, and philosophy are the foundation of the business. (You can check out OPD's here!)
They emphasize that your mission, values, and philosophy need to be written in stone. When they are, your clients will feel it. People will come to you because of who you are.
Heather mentions that even if people disagree with you, they will respect you for standing your ground.
When you're living in your mission, your voice as a business gets louder.
If you don't define who and what you are, you're not going to win. You want to think about what makes you different and embrace it.
Heather says it's easy to get caught up in what people think, but knowing who you are and your values will get you through potentially being controversial.
D and Heather discuss how they were nervous to be open about their faith in the beginning of their business. They were even questioning if they should sell Bibles, play Christian music, and be true to their authentic selves. In the end, they focused on being true to who they are, and have seen major success with their branding.
Another point D brings up is that your branding has to be yourself, and it's important to document it so you can share it with your team. D shared their branding template with their Virtual Assistant, and it was easy for her to match their style.

For the No Questions Off Limits Segment, the first question is, "What are your pet peeves about each other?"
Heather mentions D's need for sound when she needs to focus because Heather needs silence to work.
D mentions Heather's "Vacation Mode" where she needs to touch base multiple times during the week leading up to her vacation. They both also make fun of Heather's clumsiness.
The next question is, "What is a goal you have for your life?"
Heather wants to be able to travel and stay as adventurous as she is right now.
D is the opposite and wants to be able to build on a lot of land so she never has to leave. She even wants a baseball field on her property!
